Italy entry requirements by citizenship
Entry requirements to Italy depend on citizenship. Some can travel to Italy visa-free, and others must apply for a visa before traveling.
Italy entry requirements for US citizens
US citizens can travel visa-free to Italy. They can stay up to 90 days in Italy and the Schengen area. Italy entry requirements for US citizens also include the passport book. Italy does not recognize US Passport cards or US emergency passports.
Although US citizens can travel visa-free to Italy, they must apply for ETIAS when the system is launched. See more information below.

from Canada
Canadian citizens are granted a visa exemption when traveling to Italy. They can stay 90 days in Italy, visa-free. A passport is still needed to travel. All visa-free travelers to Italy must apply for ETIAS when it is launched. In the meantime, there are no additional entry requirements to travel to Italy from Canada.

from Australia
Citizens from Australia can travel visa-free to Italy for up to 90 days with a passport. An electronic travel authorization will be needed when ETIAS is launched. More information is below.

from the United Kingdom (UK)
Italy’s entry requirements from the United Kingdom have changed since Brexit. Citizens from the UK can now travel visa-free to Italy. Identity Cards are not accepted to travel to Italy (they are even invalid everywhere since 2011); a passport is needed.
You can stay up to 90 days in Italy. You can find more information on gov.uk.
from India
Unfortunately, citizens from India cannot travel visa-free to Italy. You need to apply for a visa before traveling. The tourist visa for a short stay, up to 90 days, is the “Uniform Schengen Visa”. As the name indicates, this visa allows you to travel to all countries within the Schengen area. On the other hand, the visa is single-entry, meaning once you exit the Schengen area, you will need another visa to enter the Schengen area again. The visa costs 80€.
Italy entry requirements from India also include a Travel Insurance Certificate. The insurance needs to cover all medical expenses during the stay in Italy.
Finally, you can be asked to show a return ticket to travel to Italy.

Italy entry requirements: Covid
Vaccine. Currently, no vaccines are required to travel to Italy. A full-scheme vaccination certificate was mandatory to go to the restaurant or cinema. It is no more the case: no vaccination certificates are required to visit Italy.
Face masks. There are no requirements for a face mask in Italy. No face masks are mandatory inside or outside.
PCR Tests. No PCR tests are needed to travel to Italy.
ETIAS
ETIAS is the European Electronic Travel Authorization. It works the same way as USA’s ESTA, Korea’s KETA, or Canada’s eTA. Citizens who can travel visa-free to Italy must apply for ETIAS before traveling to Italy.
ETIAS will cost 7€ for travelers from 18 to 70, free for others. An approved ETIAS will stay valid for 3 years, meaning you can travel again to Italy with the same ETIAS multiple times.
Scheduled for 2025. ETIAS will be launched in 2025. It will be optional at the beginning, for 6 months. It will be mandatory in 2026.
